Overview

For a client in the window wall manufacturing industry, we delivered a complete solution for stackable storage racks designed to safely store and handle finished window units.

While local manufacturers offered good quality and stability, the cost was significantly higher. By combining engineering validation, local prototyping, and global sourcing, we were able to deliver a solution that maintained comparable quality and performance at approximately three times lower cost—even after including shipping and customs.

The objective was to improve storage efficiency, reduce handling damage, and optimize space utilization—while achieving substantial cost savings.

Challenge

The client was facing multiple issues with their existing storage system:

  • Limited floor space and inefficient stacking
  • Risk of damage to finished window units during handling
  • Lack of stability in stacked racks
  • High cost of locally manufactured solutions

A reliable, engineered, and cost-effective solution was required.

Our Approach

1. Local Prototyping & Validation

Before moving to full-scale sourcing, we developed prototype racks locally.

This allowed us to:

  • Validate design and structural stability
  • Test real-world handling conditions
  • Get direct feedback from the client’s production team
  • Refine the design before production

The final design was approved after successful testing and validation.

2. Engineering Review

The rack design was evaluated to ensure:

  • Structural integrity under stacked conditions
  • Load capacity and stacking safety
  • Stability and center of gravity
  • Ease of handling and operational efficiency

3. Supplier Identification & Sourcing

We sourced the racks from qualified manufacturers in China, selected based on their fabrication capability, consistency, and ability to meet engineering and quality requirements.

4. On-Site Quality Inspection in China

To ensure quality and consistency, we conducted an on-site inspection at the manufacturing facility in China.

This included:

  • Reviewing welding quality and fabrication standards
  • Verifying dimensions and material specifications
  • Ensuring alignment with the approved prototype
  • Assessing quality control processes

Results

  • Improved storage efficiency with a safe stackable design
  • Reduced product damage during handling
  • Better utilization of floor space
  • Consistent and reliable product quality

Cost Impact

By leveraging global sourcing, the client was able to manufacture the racks at approximately three times lower cost compared to local production, even after including shipping and customs.

Importantly, this cost advantage was achieved without compromising structural integrity, stability, or overall quality, matching the performance of locally manufactured solutions.

Key Takeaway

This project demonstrates that:

Cost savings do not have to come at the expense of quality
Engineering validation ensures performance
Smart sourcing delivers both efficiency and value

Conclusion

At The Dalal’s Group, we ensure that every solution is not only cost-effective but also engineered for safety, durability, and real-world performance.
